The Best Damn Fans in the Land

Michael Coleman May Not Be Evil After All...Maybe

2003

I dearly would have liked to have seen Miami’s local coverage of the Fiesta Bowl. In my opinion, one of Miami’s local news channels should have simply shown clips of local news coverage in Columbus Ohio and they would have probably secured huge ratings on the basis of entertainment value alone. Everywhere on local news channels in Columbus were specials and gimmicks. One group of local TV “celebrities” actually took a week or so to drive cross-country in an SUV stopping in several cities along the way and scouring to find equally bizarre and crazy people in local bars that were Buckeye fans. There were stories on shirt printing presses all over the local news. Shirt printing, of all things, shirt printing. And God bless him, but our beloved Governor is not the most eloquent spokesman at times. And some of the clips of him guffawing over good ol’ Jeb Bush having to wear a Buckeye’s jersey are positively painful and I challenge even the most die-hard loyal supporter of the Buckeyes or of governor Taft to deny it. Does the guy watch clips of himself? And that new president, the lady. Can’t remember her name. Oh yeah, Karen Holbrook. Anyway, all she could blather on about was how peachy and nice everyone was together after the game. Peachy and nice, peachy and nice, please, please, please don’t riot. She grates me for a huge number of reasons I have to admit but I’ll move on. Mike Coleman was the coolest of them all, which is unfortunate. Unfortunate because I really, deep down believe that he is evil. But he seemed almost like a little kid, all wide eyed and I truly believe that he thought that it was a magical moment. But he’s still probably evil. And as possible proof, he is also partly responsible for what this article is really about. To point...

Did you see the huge number of police cars on High Street keeping the four or five people off the street? And not to mention the indiscriminate towing of vehicles for several days before and after the game. The, dare I say it, overreaction to this event both before and after truly speaks volumes. I am certain that the harpy, Karen Holbrook, had as much to do with this as Coleman so maybe this does not prove that Coleman is evil after all. Damn. Anyway, my point is this. We admonish our players that when they get in the end zone that they act like they have been there before. Perhaps Karen Holbrook and to a larger extent, Buckeye fans, should take their own advice...

Then again, screw-it, what a tremendous season. Have fun with it Columbus. If anyone deserves it, it is one that has such a tremendous fan base to have 60,000 fans as opposed to Miami’s 15,000 fans attend the Fiesta Bowl in support of their team. Bad calls or not, the "overreaction" of Buckeye fans before, during and after the Fiesta Bowl is ample proof that Buckeye fans are the best damn fans in the land.
